Medicine for Little People

Updated: Dec 24, 2020

It was back to school for Dorset's ambulance crews this week with the first education night of 2020. BASICS Dorset hosted a training session on Paediatric Life Support in Bournemouth. The evening began with a revision lecture and a scenario demonstration of the latest practice as recommend by the Resus Council UK. The attendees were then split in to groups and continued the session in various workshops. Our guest lecturers were on hand to deliver some excellent training, adding their experience and lessons to the established guidelines.

Dr Chris Beng (Thames Valley Air Ambulance), Dr Aidan Joyce (Anesthetics, UHS) , Dr Ben Elkins (Southampton ED) and Simon Tutt (ACP, Yeovil ED) were on hand to talk the attendees through patient, paediatric airway management, CPR and neonatal resuscitation. We were lucky enough to have the support of military paramedic Andy Hughes who provided the realistic mannequins from LifeCast for the evening.

Many thanks to evryone who supported and attended the event. All proceeds from the evening will be helping to train and equip the volunteer BASICS medics providing enhanced care cover here in Dorset.
