MEET THE BASICS DORSET TEAM
Dr Katie Muscroft FRCEM - BASICS Responder, Clinical Lead & Chair
​
Katie is a consultant in Emergency Medicine and a founding member of BASICS Dorset. When not on duty for BASICS she can be found working in Emergency Departments in the South West region. Katie became an accredited BASICS responder with SAVES in 2018 and now covers the East Dorset conurbation for BASICS Dorset. She is a course director and lecturer for the national BASICS Pre-Hospital Emergency Course (PHEC). Outside of NHS work, Katie is the clinical director of a major annual arts festival and works with several other event medical services.
Dr Chris - BASICS Responder & Education Lead
Chris is a GP based in Dorset. Although the newest responder on the team here, he has many years of pre-hospital experience as a BASICS doctor for the West Midlands Care Team
Robert Ford - Trustee BASICS Dorset

Rob's long career in the Civil Service culminated in him working as the corporate business planner in the Chief Executive's Private Office of a large Government Agency. After this he become Head of Strategic Planning for a large Fire and Rescue Service and was involved in all aspects of planning, performance, risk and governance. He now a part time musician, local radio presenter and helps to run one of the largest free music festivals in the country. As well as being one of our trustees he is a magistrate and continues to provide consultancy on risk and governance issues.
Mark Penwarden - Treasurer & Trustee BASICS Dorset

Mark is a paramedic with South Western Ambulance Service. He has a post-graduate qualification in Critical Care and is an Emergency Department majors practitioner. He joined the team at BASICS Dorset in 2020. In addition to his many years of experience with the ambulance service, Mark has previously worked as a paramedic with the local Air Ambulance. He has also lectured in Paramedic Science at Bournemouth University. Outside of work Mark enjoys surfing and snowboarding.
Jackie Gibbins - Secretary & Trustee BASICS Dorset

After serving the NHS for 38 years as a Registered Nurse, Jackie returned to the frontline as an Emergency Care Assistant with South Western Ambulance Service. Jackie joined the board of Trustees in 2020 and has been part of the team moving us forward as a Registered Charity.
Jonathan Bailey - Support Officer BASICS Dorset

Jonathan came to healthcare after a career in the Royal Navy. Starting as ambulance crew he moved on to work as an Emergency Department HCA and lately as a Critical Care Technician at a Major Trauma Centre. As well as volunteering for BASICS Dorset, Jonathan is a scuba instructor with the British Sub-Aqua Club.
