Its been nearly 2 years since BASICS Dorset set about bringing the BASICS service to our county. After 21 months of meetings, training and fundraising it finally came about. On 15 June 2018 our first responder - callsign SD05 - logged onfor shift with Ambulance Control as available for tasking. Responder SD05 is currently operating under the auspices of SAVES in Somerset although they will be based and responding to call-outs primarily in East Dorset.
Last week saw their first 2 call-outs to assist South Western Ambulance Service. SD05 was able to respond and lend expert medical assistance to a patient suffering a cardiac arrest and another trauma victim: both in the East Dorset conurbation.
It's taken a lot of effort to get us just this far - a big thank you to all our supporters who've helped us do it. Our next goal is to recruit and train BASICS doctors to cover the north and west of the county. If you or you business can help us in any way then please get in touch. Help us to save lives in your community.
